The earliest documented evidence referring to a Baliga or Balo can be found in the book “The Ancient History of South Canara” written by Sri Ganapathi Rao Aigal which mentions one Damarsa Bale, among other Samasthas of Bantwal, signing a letter of offering to Sri Bhadra Narasimha Temple of Manjeshwar. Inscribed on a copper plate in Kannada Language and script, this letter of offering was created in the year 1747 A.D. The full text of the letter in Roman script given below:

9 An inscription carved on the black stone is found infront of the Babbale Katte near Sri Tirumala Venkatramana Swamy Temple at Bantwal reads thus.(Translated from Kannada Language)

Before Shri Baliga started his free matrimonial services in the name of GSB Matrimonial Trust®, there was a grave problem confronted by our Samaj members spread over India and abroad of non availability of reliable data bank on the suitable and eligible boys and girls. He toured all over India and abroad in this connection by holding get together of aspirants.

He has also extended his services to the poor by arranging for the Mangalasuthra, Sarees and the marriage expenses, with contributions of philanthropists.

He started the Magazine ‘Soirka’ in 7th November 1988 which is successfully running even today. In 1997 Soirika started publishing its online version www.soirka.net

Shri B.N. Baliga’s efforts have considerably improved the situation in finding a match to our youth. Today thousands of GSB households grateful to him for the relief he has given to them by providing lead to a suitable match.
 
Narasimha Venkatesh Ramachandra Baliga
15 B.Venkatrao Baliga (1890-1945) was a lawyer and was junior to Shri Ammembal Subbarao Pai the founder of Canara Bank. Vakil Venkatrao Baliga as he was called was also become chairman of Canara Bank during 1942-45. Venkatrao Baliga was elected to the post of Chairman, Municpal Council of Mangalore in 1938. He served from 1938 to 1943. He was jailed for participating in the Great Quit India Movement. Because of the ill treatment and torture he suffered in the jail he died soon after his release. Venkatraya Vaikunt Janardan Baliga
16 Bab Baliga is famous as Babbalo and was a famous Manthrik. There is quite a few legenodry stories around him about his Manthra Shakthi. There was a huge banyan tree infront of Shri Temple at Bantwal and a structure at the base of that tree which was called Babbale Katto. Recently the tree has fallen due to the old age and new sapling has been sown in its place. Our many Mool Naga Bimbas were/are there on this katte. We Bantwal Baligas still practice a custom of offering coconuts to this katte on the eve of any auspecious ceremonies in the family. Baba Vittal Subba Baliga
